What is CBD Gum?

Published: 24-11-2021

Do you want to enjoy your CBD fix in a more fun and convenient way? You can do so by chewing on CBD gums. The best part about CBD gums is their versatility, offering different flavors and concentrations. So, for those who don’t want to taste the natural, earthy flavors of CBD, CBD gums are perfect.

Additionally, unlike smoking or vaping, chewing CBD gums can be done anywhere without drawing attention to yourself.  Yet, the most prized characteristic of CBD chewing gum is its high bioavailability. But, before you rush to stock up on packs and packs of CBD gums, it’s a good idea to learn more about what is CBD gum. Check out our guide below to learn more.

What Is CBD Gum?

CBD gum simply refers to chewing gum infused with CBD. Like regular chewing gum, these types of gums come in different flavors. You can find fruity or minty flavors to freshen your breath while offering CBD effects. Additionally, you will find chewing CBD gums with different CBD concentrations based on your needs and tolerance levels.

Additionally, CBD gums come in a selection of CBD combinations. You can opt for full spectrum, broad spectrum, or CBD isolates. Full spectrum CBD simply refers to CBD and other cannabinoids with trace amounts of THC. But, full spectrum CBD typically contains less than 0.3% THC.

This amount of THC usually is not enough to get you high. Broad spectrum CBD refers to CBD with all cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plant. However, this CBD variation is free from THC. On the other hand, CBD isolates refer to CBD variants in their purest form.

How Does CBD Gum Work?

CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body. The ECS forms part of the body’s neurotransmitter network. It also features cell receptors responsible for supporting the regulation of multiple functions such as sensations and even pleasure.

Thus, when you take CBD, it binds to the cell receptors to deliver its health benefits. You will experience different effects based on how you take CBD, although most of the effects remain the same regardless of how you take CBD. For example, topically applied CBD like cream or lotion is ideal for pain and inflammation management.

This is because your thick skin prevents the CBD from topicals from penetrating the bloodstream. So, topicals are only most effective when applied directly to the problem area on the skin or deeper into the muscle tissues.  On the other hand, CBD gums work differently. Since you chew them, CBD gums are part of the sublingual group.

Thus, CBD is directly absorbed into the bloodstream from the mouth and tongue. Unlike CBD topicals, CBD gums offer more health benefits as the CBD can be absorbed into the bloodstream. If you want to enjoy benefits like anxiety relief, better sleep, and relaxation, CBD gums are a better option. Additionally, CBD from chewing gums supports healthy digestion, pain, and inflammation relief.

Why CBD Gum Can Be So Effective

Due to how CBD gums are taken and absorbed into the body, they offer a greater absorption rate with more efficiency. You have to think of bioavailability when it comes to the effectiveness of CBD intake. Bioavailability simply refers to the volume and rate CBD is absorbed into your bloodstream.

Compared to CBD products like edibles, CBD gums offer a higher bioavailability. This means that when you eat gummies, you will not feel the effects instantly. It will take longer to start experiencing its effects. On the other hand, CBD gums yield effects instantly when you start to chew on them.

According to researchers, taking CBD from edibles will only yield 6% CBD into the blood.  This is because most of the CBD is lost through metabolism and digestion. This is not the same for CBD sublinguals because they are absorbed instantly.

Smoked or vaped CBD will enter the bloodstream through the lungs. CBD edibles like gummies or cookies go to the stomach and intestines, where they are digested before absorption. CBD gums don’t work like smoked, vaped, or CBD edibles. Instead, they are considered sublingual.

This method is what makes them stand out as it increases their bioavailability. Taking products like edibles means you will enjoy very small effects of CBD since very little of it is absorbed after the long digestion process. CBD from sublingual like gums is instantly absorbed into the bloodstream during chewing.

When you chew these gums, the CBD enters the bloodstream through the mucus membranes in the mouth and tongue. So, it doesn’t undergo any metabolism and digestion process, allowing you to absorb optimal amounts of CBD and experience maximum results. In short, CBD gums offer a better absorption and functioning efficiency. With a higher absorption rate and better efficiency, CBD absorbed from gums will also last much longer as high amounts are absorbed into the body.
