Do CBDs Actually Work for Muscle Pain?

Published: 15-12-2021

Do CBDs actually work for muscle pain? We explore what the research says and whether topical or oral supplements are better.

CBD is a compound that has become popular due to its therapeutic effects on many conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain, depression, cancer-induced nausea and vomiting, Parkinson’s disease symptoms, schizophrenia symptoms, sleep disorders. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it may help with some cases of arthritis as well. As you can imagine then there are lots of people wondering whether CBDs could be an effective treatment for their own case of arthritis too.

Why is CBD Popular?

CBDs have become popular for a few reasons. Firstly, because they are non-addictive and don’t produce the “high” associated with cannabis products. Secondly, because they seem to help relieve symptoms of a variety of conditions with relatively few side effects. And finally, because they are available in many different forms (oral supplements, topical preparations, vape oils, etc.) which makes them convenient to use.

Effects of CBD on Our Bodies

CBD is a cannabinoid, which is a type of chemical found in cannabis plants. CBDs are one of the many active compounds found in cannabis and they interact with something called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in our bodies. The ECS is responsible for maintaining balance within our bodies, including regulating things like pain, mood, appetite, and memory.

There are two types of cannabinoids: endocannabinoid (our body produces them) and phytocannabinoids (found in plants). CBD is a phytocannabinoid.

The way that CBDs work to relieve pain isn’t fully understood yet but it’s thought that they help block pain signals from being sent to the brain. They may also help to increase the levels of our body’s own natural painkillers, called endorphins.

So do CBDs work for muscle pain? The research on this is still relatively new but it does look promising. A study published in 2018 looked at the effects of CBD on rats with arthritis and found that it helped to reduce inflammation and improve mobility.

Another study, published in 2017, looked at the use of CBD for chronic neuropathic pain (pain caused by damage to the nerves). This study found that CBD was effective in reducing pain symptoms.

There are still lots more studies needed to be done before we can say definitively whether or not CBDs are an effective treatment for muscle pain specifically. But the evidence so far suggests that they could be a good option.

Topical CBDs are another popular choice for people who want to try using them as a treatment for arthritis symptoms. However, more research is needed on the use of topical cannabinoids in treating pain conditions like arthritis because there’s still not enough evidence about how effective it can be and any potential side effects that may result from its use.

Oral supplements containing CBDs seem to have an advantage over topicals when it comes to relieving muscle aches and pains due to their ability to quickly enter the bloodstream with faster onset times than other methods such as vaping or smoking cannabis products or consuming edibles which take a much longer time before they start taking effect.

How topical CBD works for muscle soreness and pain

Topical CBDs work by being absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. This is a great way to get the benefits of cannabinoids without having to ingest them orally.

When it comes to using topical CBD for muscle soreness and pain, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:

  • Start with a small amount and increase gradually as needed.
  • Don’t apply it directly to broken or irritated skin.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, consult with your healthcare provider before using topical CBDs.

There’s still not enough evidence about how effective topicals are for relieving muscle soreness and pain so if you’re thinking about trying them out we recommend starting with a small amount and increasing gradually as needed. Be sure to avoid contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth and consult with your healthcare provider before using if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

How oral CBD works for muscle soreness and pain

When it comes to using oral CBD for muscle soreness and pain, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:

  • Start with a low dose and increase gradually as needed.
  • Don’t take more than the recommended dosage.
  • Avoid taking CBD if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting with your healthcare provider first.

Side Effects of CBD

When it comes to using CBDs, whether topically or orally, it’s important to be aware of the potential side effects. Topical CBDs may cause skin irritation in some people, so start with a small amount and increase gradually as needed. Oral CBDs can also cause adverse effects like diarrhea, changes in appetite, and drowsiness. So if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, consult with your healthcare provider before using them.

Be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medications you’re taking before starting oral or topical CBD treatment, as there could be interactions between them.

CBDs are a great way to relieve muscle soreness and pain, but it’s important to be aware of the potential side effects before starting treatment. Consult with your healthcare provider before using CBDs.
